status update music, leroy i don't know how jane remover manages to put out so much music in such little time with such high quality and attention to detail. when revengeseekerz came out last year i did not expect that i would keep coming back to it as often as i do, given that i tend to listen to more noise rock/post punk/post hardcore in my everyday life and listen to other genres when i'm in the mood for something different. i had no idea a new leroy album came out until a few days ago and since then i've had this playing constantly. every day i feel compelled to dance to boyletmeknow and the summer i turned pretty (my two favorite songs off this album). her music fascinates me primarily because she takes the practice of sampling to its extreme if that makes sense. instead of just one or two elements of the song being sampled from some other song, it seems as though every "instrument" in the song is derived from something else. it doesn't even have to be from another song, it can literally be anything. i'm aware that dariacore has been around for a while now, but i'd like to do some more in depth writing and research on it someday. it really reminds me of the arte povera movement, where items usually found in the trash would be incorporated/made into an art piece. in the same way, jane remover takes the "trash" of popular internet/video game soundbytes that we hear every single day without a second thought and turns them into instruments, often placing them alongside samples from 2000s/2010s pop songs. it's like the musical equivalent to collage art while also being super catchy and fun to dance to :) 5.29.26
